Abstracts

The place of Islam in Western Siberia’s Qazaq culture. – Using an approach typical of the Russian ethnographic school, the author of this article insists on the superficial character of Islamization and on the fact that it took place late among Qazaqs, and applies herself to isolating elements pertaining to a pre-islamic Qazaq culture in various ritual practices (food-related rituals and propitiatory sacrifices, for instance) of Siberian Qazaq populations.
